Towards the end of last year, I had the pleasure of working with Alison while finding the perfect dress for her big day. I've known Alison since high school and she has always been such a beautiful person, inside and out. I was honored that she came to me in search of her wedding gown. She was fortunate to have her wonderful family here by her side as she made her decision. The wedding looked like an unforgettable event and we could not be happier for this picture perfect couple. December Bridal Shoot- Jacksonville Brides

This week, I had the opportunity to work with a lovely group of wedding professionals on a shoot down in Palm Coast, FL. The shoot took place at the Hammock Dunes Beach Resort and was styled and photgraphed by Flowers & Phortography out of Ormonde Beach. Hair and make-up was done by the very talented Faythe Mesnic of A Glamour Bride and Megan Burnette of Caviar Salon. It was such a pleasure working with you all and the finished product is beautiful!

Dresses can typically be altered to be made into smaller sizes while still keeping the same shape & style of the dress. Keep this in mind while shopping. What inspires you to design a new wedding gown?

Anne: "Many things go into the inspiration for a new gown. It can be feedback from real brides when I attend trunk shows, new fabrics or embroidery designs, a trip to a museum, movies old and new, vintage clothing, historical costume books, ribbons, trims and gowns worn by European royalty over the years."

"The new Fall Collection which we have just shown at NY Bridal Market was inspired by the economy! We wanted to give brides a tremendous amount of dress for a very reasonable price. We were focused on light and airy fabrics, with some beaded laces, beaded ribbon sash belts and silk flowers for embellishment."

What trends are you seeing right now in the wedding gown industry?

Anne: "The trend right now overall, whatever the silhouette, is light and airy, things with texture, lots of interest... contrasted to 5 years ago when we saw more conservative looks... brides definitely have gotten edgier... Even if a bride thinks she wants something more conservative she also wants to be different, not weird by any means, but something that makes a fashion statement.... Today's young woman follows fashion so much, it makes sense that on her wedding day she doesn't want to be ordinary, she wants to be extraordinary... today's bride wants to make a statement."

"I also think it is neat when brides can incorporate something of their mother's or grandmother's... something historical.... you see that a lot more here in the south than anywhere else. I love it when a bride has a family veil and all of the people who have worn it have their initials and their wedding date monogrammed on it. Even if you don't pass your dress down to your daughter you can pass down something- handkerchiefs, jewelry, a broach. We can take a piece from the mom's dress and incorporate it into a bride's gown or a piece of veil is incorporated somewhere."

NYC Bridal Market- Day 2

Day 2 started with hopping a cab to the upper 50’s to catch a morning appointment with Anne Barge. Anne’s new designs range from fun, flirty trumpets to airy, lace ball gowns. Once thing’s for sure, Anne understands how the southern bride thinks. Being from Atlanta and a proud graduate of UGA, she has a strong appreciation for southern charm & class. Her designs are frequently inspired by classic fashion icons of the 1950’s, like Jacqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn. Each gown possesses something incredibly unique that gives it loads of personality. Like this fabulous polka dot dress with the bow tied sash…. a dream come true for the ultimate preppy bride!

Next it was on to the JLM Couture showroom where I had the opportunity to view the new Jim Hjelm & Blush collections. This season, belts have been the newest, hottest trend in wedding fashion & for good reason! Dressing up your gown with a fabulous jeweled or colored belt can give your wedding day look that extra wow factor you may be after. NYC Bridal Market- Day 1

There’s nothing like the city in the springtime…..And a few weeks ago I had the distinct pleasure of meeting with some of the top designers in the industry at New York City’s Bridal Market. Each designer showed off their fabulous new collections and showed the world what’s in store for brides this coming fall. The weekend was filled with viewing collection after collection, all of which exhibited the most intricate and detailed of designs.

Day 1, I traveled up to the Garment District to Judd Waddell’s showroom. Judd’s designs wowed me with their simple elegance and stood true to his design philosophy: “notice the woman first, the dress second.” I love Judd’s jeweled accents & broaches, along with his diamond jeweled buttons. They give each dress the perfect hint of glamour. Here were some of my favorites:

Next, it was on to the Modern Trousseau showroom where the girls & designer Callie Tein welcomed me with open arms & champagne. They were absolutely fabulous! Along with their new collection….. From romantic lace to edgy ball gowns, you can’t go wrong with this collection!
